On September 27th, University of Jakarta International (UNIJI) was excited to welcome guest lecturer Azmyl Yunor from Malaysia. Azmyl is a well-known folk singer, songwriter, and independent artist, and he shared stories about his journey to becoming a prominent figure in the Malaysian music scene.
Active since the 1990s, Azmyl has released several albums independently, including two EPs—*Jikalauan* (2004) and *Tenets EP* (2005)—and three full albums: *Warga* (2010), *H.I.D.U.P.* (2010), and *Wilayah* (2012).
During the hour-long session, Azmyl talked about his musical journey and the challenges he faced along the way. He also discussed the differences between the music industries in Malaysia and Indonesia, highlighting various Indonesian artists who have inspired him.
Students enjoyed watching Azmyl's music videos and learning about the stories behind his songs and albums. This gave them a unique and personal insight into the music scene.
We’re happy to say that UNIJI students had a great time during the session. It was both fun and informative, and it's part of our effort to provide enriching experiences for our students, especially those studying Entertainment and Creative Industry.
We’d like to thank Azmyl Yunor for his visit and the valuable insights he shared. We wish him all the best in his career and hope to see him again soon. Thanks to all the students who joined the session; we hope you found it helpful in understanding the music industry better!
