On September 9, 2025, Universitas Jakarta Internasional (UNIJI) and PT Sinergi Gula Nusantara (SGN) formally established a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signifying a significant milestone in promoting collaboration between academia and industry. The ceremony, conducted at UNIJI’s campus, underscored a shared commitment to research, development, and innovation within Indonesia’s sugar industry. This strategic partnership embodies both parties’ dedication to enhancing food security while delivering tangible advantages for students, professionals, and the broader community.
The collaboration encompasses four primary areas: research and development, human resource capacity enhancement, innovation and technology, and scientific dissemination. Through collaborative research on sugarcane cultivation and processing, capacity-building initiatives, and innovation-driven projects, UNIJI and SGN endeavor to support the government’s objective of achieving sugar self-sufficiency by 2028 for domestic consumption and 2030 for industrial utilization. Additionally, both institutions are committed to publishing joint scientific findings and conducting seminars, workshops, and policy recommendations to contribute to the sustainable development of the nation.
For UNIJI students, the partnership with PT SGN presents substantial opportunities to integrate academic learning with practical experience. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) facilitates access to industry internships, student-led research projects in collaboration with SGN experts, guest lectures featuring industry leaders, and joint training programs that enhance skills across the spectrum of sugar production and management. These initiatives not only broaden students’ knowledge bases but also equip them with the competencies essential for success in competitive future careers.
